Qubee Kids was created to give children access to engaging early-learning experiences while making Afaan Oromoo a natural part of the digital world in which they are growing up.
The app combines Afaan Oromoo and English with foundational literacy, numeracy, vocabulary, general knowledge, and educational games. It is designed to be free, child-friendly, largely offline, and accessible without requiring children to create accounts.
Since 2025, Qubee Kids has grown primarily through organic discovery, family recommendations, community sharing, and app-store discovery.
Our Reach
Qubee Kids has surpassed 50,000 downloads and device acquisitions across Android and iOS, reflecting strong demand from families in Ethiopia and Oromo communities around the world.
More than 24,000 devices currently have Qubee Kids installed, showing that its reach extends well beyond historical downloads.
Recent analytics show more than 15,000 monthly active users, with activity exceeding 17,000 users at its 2026 peak.
Weekly active usage has exceeded 10,000 users, demonstrating sustained engagement with the platform.
Figures are based on Google Play Console, Apple App Store Connect, and Firebase Analytics data available through September 2026. Metrics represent different measures of reach and engagement and should not be interpreted as unique lifetime learners.
Built in Ethiopia's Communities, Reaching Families Around the World
Ethiopia remains the center of Qubee Kids' adoption.
More than 37,000 acquisitions recorded through Google Play came from Ethiopia. More than 20,000 currently installed devices are also located in Ethiopia.
At the same time, Qubee Kids has reached families beyond Ethiopia, including users in the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Germany, Australia, France, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries.
This international adoption is particularly important for Oromo families in the diaspora, where children may have fewer opportunities to regularly encounter Afaan Oromoo in their everyday learning environment.
More Than a Language App
Qubee Kids began by addressing a major gap in quality digital Afaan Oromoo learning resources for young children. As the platform developed, its purpose expanded.
Today, children can use Qubee Kids to develop foundational skills across:
- Afaan Oromoo and English letters and vocabulary
- Alphabet recognition and tracing
- Numbers and counting
- Addition, subtraction, and early mathematics
- Word building and literacy
- Colors
- Animals and their sounds
- The human body
- Days and months
- General knowledge
- Problem-solving and educational games
Newer learning experiences such as Qubee Math World, Word Builder, and Qubee Runner provide more structured opportunities for children to practice and reinforce these skills.
Learning Through Play
Young children learn best when they want to continue participating.
For this reason, Qubee Kids combines instruction with interaction, exploration, animation, audio, and play. Children do not simply watch educational content. They tap, listen, trace, count, construct words, answer questions, solve problems, and play games based on what they are learning.
At the center of the experience is Qubee, our animated learning companion. Qubee demonstrates activities, guides children through learning experiences, reacts to their actions, encourages them when they struggle, and celebrates their progress.
Our goal is for children to experience Qubee not simply as a character on the screen, but as a familiar companion they learn with.
Language and Culture Belong in Digital Learning
Children should not have to leave their language or cultural identity behind to benefit from educational technology.
Afaan Oromoo is integrated throughout Qubee Kids rather than treated as an optional translation layer. Children encounter the alphabet, vocabulary, native-language audio, culturally relevant concepts, and Oromo context while developing broader foundational skills.
English is also available throughout the platform, allowing families to use either language and helping children become comfortable learning across both environments.
This approach allows language preservation and broader educational development to reinforce one another.
Building Digital Confidence
Our impact goal extends beyond individual lessons.
For many children, educational apps can provide some of their earliest opportunities to independently interact with digital technology. Through Qubee Kids, children learn to navigate interfaces, follow instructions, make choices, interact with visual and audio information, solve problems, receive feedback, and progress through activities.
These experiences can help children develop confidence and familiarity with technology alongside literacy and numeracy.
We believe children from underserved language communities should have every opportunity to become comfortable participants in an increasingly digital world.
Designed for Access
Accessibility has shaped Qubee Kids from the beginning.
- Free access. Core learning is available without requiring families to purchase a subscription.
- Offline-friendly. Most educational content is bundled with the app and remains available without continuous internet access.
- No child accounts. Children can begin learning without creating an account or providing personal information.
- Child-friendly design. The interface is designed around young learners, with visual navigation, audio guidance, large interactive elements, and playful feedback.
- Learning at their own pace. Children can revisit activities and progressively become more independent in navigating the learning environment.
These choices are particularly important where connectivity, subscription costs, language availability, or access to educational resources may otherwise create barriers.
What Our Data Shows, and What It Does Not Yet Show
We believe responsible impact reporting requires distinguishing reach and engagement from demonstrated learning outcomes.
What our existing data provides evidence for
- Reached tens of thousands of devices
- Maintained a substantial active user community
- Achieved sustained adoption in Ethiopia
- Reached Oromo and other families internationally
- Generated continued engagement without requiring paid access
Google Play Console, Apple App Store Connect, and Firebase Analytics provide the primary quantitative evidence for these findings.
What we do not yet claim
Usage data alone cannot establish how much a child's literacy or numeracy improves because of Qubee Kids. We therefore do not currently claim that Qubee Kids produces a specific percentage improvement in learning outcomes.
Measuring the Next Level of Impact
Our next stage is to move from measuring primarily reach and engagement toward systematically measuring learning progression.
Future evaluation will examine areas such as:
- Activity and lesson completion
- Progression through learning stages
- Repeated practice and retention
- Letter and word mastery
- Counting and numeracy development
- Performance across progressively difficult math activities
- Areas where children repeatedly need assistance
- Changes in learning performance over time
We also intend to explore structured evaluations with educators, families, schools, and research partners to better understand how regular Qubee Kids use affects children's foundational literacy and numeracy.
Child privacy will remain a core requirement as these measurement capabilities develop.
Our Long-Term Goal
We want a child's language, location, connectivity, or family income to have less influence over the quality of early-learning opportunities available to them.
Our goal is not simply to build a successful Afaan Oromoo app. We want children to develop strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, language, cultural identity, independent learning, and digital confidence while having access to technology that recognizes the language and community they come from.
Qubee Kids demonstrates that modern educational technology can serve an underserved language community without treating that community as an afterthought.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, explore, and confidently participate in the digital future.
